Lieber Tot: la oscuridad sonora hecha festival berlinés

Berlín es conocida por ser el corazón de la música electrónica europea, pero también es un enclave indispensable para los sonidos oscuros y el gusto por todo aquello que se sale de los convencional. Y en este marco encontramos Lieber Tot, un mini festival de dos días donde se congregó la flor y nata del ambiente siniestro berlinés. El cartel no era para menos, ya que apostaba no sólo por la EBM (bendita!) y el synth wave, sino también por descubrimientos como Tango Mangalore y su marcado carácter bizarre folk, She Can´t Afford Mascara o Infant Sanchos, por poner un ejemplo.

Así mismo, el venue elegido para tamaño encuentro fue el club Aeden, un lugar más propio de meetings cluberos, pero que a mediados de septiembre se teñía de negro para ser nuestro anfitrión. Si bien he de apostillar que en mi opinión no es el mejor lugar para ofrecer directos, el patio y sus dos salas daban algo de juego y misterio (nunca sabes a quién te vas a encontrar en este tipo de encuentros).

Lieber Tot superó las expectativas con creces ya que tanto el viernes como el sábado se llenó de un público ávido por escuchar y ver en acción a algunos artistas que, a día de hoy, son nuevos referentes como artistas emergentes del «rollo darks». Night in Athens, Eddie Dark o una insuperable Madmoizel se dejaron la piel en el escenario, contrarrestando con su actitud la escasez de sonido que a ratos se percibía en la venue. No se puede tener todo, dicen…yo no opino lo mismo pero a falta de pan, buenas son tortas y temazos como «Lady Dandy» o «Come».

Lo que también se agradece y mucho dentro de este tipo de eventos es el buen rollo que hay dentro de la comunidad siniestra, el respeto y la educación de este público ya lo quisieran otras escenas. Además de por apostar, desde que nació, por artistas queer, performances de esas que no te dejan indiferente y puestas en escena propias de una obra teatral brutal. Lieber Tot acaba de nacer y se ha consolidado como un evento indispensable en Berlín. Abracemos la oscuridad, la sombra y brindemos por su longeva y exitosa vida.

Lieber Tot: Sound of darkness turned into a Berlin festival

Berlin is known for being the heart of European electronic music, but it is also an indispensable enclave for dark sounds and a taste for everything that breaks with convention. And it is in this context that we find Lieber Tot, a two-day mini-festival that brought together the cream of Berlin’s sinister scene. The line-up was impressive, featuring not only EBM (blessed!) and synth wave, but also discoveries such as Tango Mangalore and their distinctly bizarre folk style, She Can’t Afford Mascara and Infant Sanchos, to name a few.

The venue chosen for such a gathering was the Aeden club, a place more suited to club meetings, but which in mid-September was decked out in black to host us. Although I must add that, in my opinion, it is not the best place for live performances, the courtyard and its two rooms added a touch of fun and mystery (you never know who you are going to meet at this type of event).

Lieber Tot far exceeded expectations, as both Friday and Saturday were filled with an audience eager to hear and see in action some artists who, today, are new references as emerging artists of the ‘dark scene’. Night in Athens, Eddie Dark and the unbeatable Madmoizel gave their all on stage, their attitude compensating for the poor sound quality that was noticeable at times in the venue. You can’t have everything, they say… I don’t agree, but when there’s no bread, cakes and great songs like ‘Lady Dandy’ and ‘Come’ will do.

What is also greatly appreciated at this type of event is the good vibes within the sinister community, the respect and politeness of this audience that other scenes would love to have. In addition to its commitment, since its inception, to queer artists, performances that leave no one indifferent and staging worthy of a brutal theatrical work. Lieber Tot has just been born and has established itself as an indispensable event in Berlin. Let’s embrace the darkness, the shadows, and toast to its long and successful life.
