Joseph Felice is a Maltese DJ and promoter who has been a pivotal figure in Malta’s electronic music scene since the 1980s. Inspired by pioneering artists like Depeche Mode and John Carpenter, he began attending acid house and house music events. In the 1990s, he founded Sonic Mecca, an agency and record label that introduced internationally renowned artists to Malta, including Richie Hawtin, Tobias Schmidt, Claude Young, and Surgeon. He also released Malta’s first techno album by a Maltese artist.
In collaboration with Richie Hawtin’s Berlin-based M-Nus label between 2012 and 2016, Joseph brought top-tier electronic artists like Magda, Marc Houle, Troy Pierce, Gaiser, and Heartthrob to Malta. Additionally, he explored alternative sounds such as post-punk and cold wave through events that featured bands like The KVB (UK), Mueran Humanos (Argentina), Hord (France), From Hell (Spain), and Ashcode (Italy).
Throughout his career, Joseph has promoted diverse musical genres, from minimal techno to IDM and ambient, while organizing events that challenge commercial norms. Though primarily an event organizer, he occasionally DJs to share his eclectic music collection purely out of passion. His legacy lies in driving musical authenticity and innovation, leaving a significant impact on the evolution of Malta’s electronic and alternative music scenes. This set is an amazing ambient and experimental music selection. Enjoy the travel.
