Berlin-based synth-wave band Dina Summer presented last Monday their second album‘“Girls Gang“, LP released by Iptamenos Discos at the end of January, in a masterful and intimate way at Rough Trade, the well-known record shop in the German capital.
Although this album tends more towards a new wave, post punk and even synth-pop sound, Dina Summer preserves their dark disco identity, a hallmark that has catapulted them from Berlin to the sky, as few bands transmit so much on stage, making even the shyest audience shed their embarrassment when it comes to dancing and turning the record store into a real dance floor.
Dina Summer, a collaborative project formed by Kalipo, a member of the electro-punk band Frittenbude, and the DJ and producer duo Local Suicide, won over the audience not only with tracks from their latest album, but also with classics such as ‘Rimini’ and ‘Who Am I’, songs that are already part of the collective Berlin clubbing imaginary.
This new album is a collection of 11 songs that deals with themes such as empowerment (“No More Tears” and “Girls Gang”), marginality (“Alien’ and “Zombie”), impermanence (“Promise Me”, in collaboration with Curses and Joshua Murphy), nostalgia (“Halkidiki”) and relationships (“Nothing To Hide” and “Hypnotized’”).
This second full-length incorporates bass and guitar, as well as showcasing a more focused performance from Dina’s voice, while maintaining the same catchy melodies for which they are known as a band, offering both more pop anthems and others that are undeniably club-focused. A perfect mix to delight our ears.
And remember: “If you fall, you raise again!”
